Ansys Boundary layer simulation

Dear all,
I want to share a post from my page "MECHANICAL ENGINEERING - Google+.

While learning Ansys for CFD  analysis, I recently got a file from Internet. I forgot from where I have downloaded that. But in that tutorial the following things are well explained --

1. How to do incremental meshing in "Ansys Workbench"
2. How to do "Mesh adaptation" in FLUENT
3. An overview of how to capture large 'velocity gradients' at solid boundaries (Boundary layer phenomenon).

Link  http://www.mne.psu.edu/cimbala/Learning/ANSYS/Workbench_Tutorial_Boundary_Layer.pdf

Hope it is useful for beginners like me...

Career Campaign

Dear friends,

Today I decided to start this career campaign. Its main aim is to put all the ideas and ways about our careers at a place.
The motive for this campaign is:
We (RGUKT V year students) have recently completed the internship program at various institutions, industries and PSUs. So, they got familiar with the engineering and research world. They might have got knowledge about good to best career options. By sharing the information we all can get to know about various opportunities around us. So, Please DO share the information and plans you like. Let us grow our nation. It all depends on Information only.
One more thing I should mention here is, It is not irrelevant to others. They can also share their ideas and opinions. They can also use these things to plan their future.
If you want to see the Facebook page of Career Campaign click here.
This campaign is lead by comments. You can continue it here or visit Facebook page.

While posting comments REMEMBER to include Subject for easy checking relevant posts.
Subject format:
Sub: X:(x)/Y
X = EXAM/JOB/Other
(x) = exam name is mentioned if X = EXAM
Y = CHE/CE/CSE/ECE/ME/MME/All/Other

Are You preparing for GRE?

Hi,

Are you preparing for GRE?

Here is the way you can use Khan Academy Resources to prepare for GRE.

Source:    Actually shared by Meli Lewis http://meli-lewis.github.io/

Source for GRE content: PDF of Math Review

One way to use these is to visit each topic and, if you suspect you may already know it, do the practice problems first. If anything is difficult, KA provides links on the problem pages themselves to the related videos. Some topics are specific enough that I just linked you to the one video associated with it.
This could be improved, so please contact me with any suggestions! Any overhaul will have to wait until I've taken the exam myself at the end of September.

ANSYS FEM tutorial for structural analysis

Hi friends,

To learn ANSYS online here is a link from Alberta University. click here.
Many aspects of ANSYS are explained in the order of difficulty. It is useful for those who want to learn Ansys for structural applications. But one drawback is  --  these tutorials are done with Ansys 7.0 (an older version). Of course, that is not a matter...!!!

I think this may be useful to you or your friend.

NORTH SOUTH FOUNDATION

Friends,
Today I want to share information about North South Foundation (NSF).
It is a volunteer driven non-profit organization established in Illinois in 1989.

Mission:
  • Develop human resources by giving scholarships to brilliant but needy students in India entering colleges, regardless of religion, gender, caste or creed.
  • Promote excellence in human endeavour by organizing Educational Contests for the kids in USA.
  • Help people achieve success regardless of religion, gender, caste, geographic origin by giving hope to those who may have none.
The NSF Scholarshipprogram in India is designed to encourage excellence among the poor children who excel academically but need help to attend college. Each scholarship is $250 per student per year. Are you in need of such scholarship to continue your higher studies? Apply for this scholarship.
Educational Contests organized by NSF in the US are designed to encourage academic excellence among Indian American children. The NSF spelling, vocabulary, math, essay writing, public speaking and geography bees are conducted annually in two steps. Children initially participate in Regional Contests. There are more than 65 centers in the US and Canada organizing the Regional Contests every year.
Winners of these contests are invited for the National Finals. National top rankers are awarded scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $250, redeemable in the winners’ freshman year of college. Many of the NSF children have also achieved top ranks in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, MATHCOUNTS and National Geographic Bee.

Books for mechanical engineering students - List 2

Hi friends,
This is the continuation of books list for mechanical engineering. As I am pursuing mechanical engineering, I am referring different books and then I am suggesting them here. So it took some time for me. I thought that the reading material provided for various subjects in NPTEL is enough to know the basics and to fulfil the requirements of a B Tech degree, but if you want to explore more or if you are unable to access the NPTEL try to buy a good book.

Design of Machine Elements:

Also called machine design. Machine design is one of the streams of ME with proliferating future. Mechanics of solids and engineering mechanics are the prerequisites for this subject. In this subject we will discuss about different failure phenomenon and how to design various components of machinery for a safe and reliable operation without failure.

Refrigeration and air conditioning

Refrigeration and air conditioning, as all knows, is most involved in our lives today. There is lot of research going on to invent/discover environment friendly refrigerants for RAC and exergo economical systems for RAC. First of all, as mechanical engineers, we are supposed to learn these processes and developments. In this subject, we deal with different components of industrial and domestic RAC systems and design and development of those components for overall improvement in this field.

Material:
1.       Refrigeration and air conditioning by C P Arora.
2.       NPTEL  IIT Kharagpur reading material by Prof. M Ramgopal.

Friends, I have seen only this material. If you have any suggestions please let everyone know through your comment.

Metrology

Metrology is the science of measurement and standardisation.  This is not actually a subject of B.Tech. Here in B Tech we are supposed to learn some instruments which are used for basic measurements.  Tolerances, Limits and fits are also included in this subject.

Industrial automation

With the advancement of control systems and advanced computer simulation software, the automation is playing a crucial role in Industries now. For large scale industries it reduces cost of production and improves precision in manufacturing. Industrial robots serve this purpose. Knowing the basics of automation is intended for mechanical engineering students of BE/BTech.

CAD/CAM

Nothing to introduce you about CAD/CAM. In this computer era, this electronic device is helping us (ME people) a lot to cope with the complex system design and development.  Computer Integrated Manufacturing is divided into CAD (Computer aided drafting), CAM (Computer aided manufacturing) and CAPP (Computer Aided Process Planning). We (ME people) are supposed to learn how drafting software works and how to use them for different applications.

is very much useful.
If you have any book, that you think helpful, please make others know through comment.

Operational research

As a part of industrial management, we (ME students) should learn the OR models and techniques. OR now-a-days has become a part of almost all disciplines of study. Optimization techniques are dealt in this subject.
Material:
1.       NPTEL IIT MADRAS  Advanced OR by Prof. G Srinivasan
2.       Operations research techniques for management  by V K Kapur
